Laura and I went down to Manitou Springs last Saturday for some hiking. Just west of town is an area off the road where you can park and go up a pretty steep hill to where an old railroad bed was constructed for the Midland Railroad. The hike is relatively short (about 2 miles out and back), but there are 5 tunnels to walk through so it’s kind of interesting.
After walking the railroad bed, we headed further west and up the hillside on a trail that followed a stream (which was frozen most of the way). About 1 mile in, we came upon a dirt tract. We headed along that for a little way and came upon the following sign (it’s hard to read, but says “This point marks original intersection of Ute Trail and Ute Wagon Trail”):
We went on for another 1/2 mile or so before deciding to head back down the way we came up.
There was a nice little frozen waterfall along the trail.
